Navigating the Shift from Overseas Study to Digital Language Learning in the Arabian Gulf
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This research examines the changing landscape of English language education in the Arabian Gulf, focusing on the shift from the traditional model of overseas study to the growing use of digital language learning. It explores the widespread belief that English proficiency requires physical immersion in English-speaking countries, while also considering the opportunities created by online platforms and digital learning environments.
Drawing on scholarly literature, regional context, and policy discussion, the study analyzes the financial, cultural, and educational challenges linked to studying abroad. It argues for a broader and more inclusive view of language learning—one that recognizes digital platforms as a serious and effective pathway for language development. The project concludes with recommendations for building culturally relevant digital learning ecosystems that expand access and reduce inequality.
